CAMPAIGN DAY 1

It’s the first day of the 90-day presidential campaign, and we’re on our way to Tarlac, hometown of LP standard bearer, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Day is just about to break as our bus coasts along North Luzon Tollway, and the sky is painted a beautiful mix of purple and orange. From where I’m seated it looks like a light mist covers the fields that we’re passing through, and a light fog still envelops the world that’s just about to wake up. Everything looks calm and peaceful.

Literally and figuratively, a new dawn is upon us. The new day gives us another chance to do things right, to make things better, to make a difference in the world we live in.

As we embark on this great adventure called change, we also ask ourselves, “How far are we willing to go for our country, our people, and our God?” “What are we willing to do to lead our fellow Filipinos out of the darkness?” “Are we really willing to do what’s right, even if it’s the more difficult and bumpy path?”

We are aware of the challenges ahead of us, and we know that victory is never easy. But we’re here, and we’re willing to do everything that we can, because we know that Filipinos deserve better. Our families deserve better. WE deserve better.

So here we are in this adventure! Join us and let’s make CHANGE happen together! =D

Day 1 of the 90-day campaign kicked off in Concepcion, Tarlac, where the SLAMAT LORRRD Senate slate heard Mass together with LP presidentiable Noynoy Aquino and vice-presidentiable Mar Roxas. The Mass was scheduled for 9AM but people had already lined the streets outside the Immaculate Conception Parish as early as 8AM, all eager to catch a glimpse of the candidates. The atmosphere was festive and hopeful. From where we were, the future looked bright yellow indeed.

By the time the candidates had arrived at the church and the Mass had begun, the place was packed. Although the Mass itself was still quite solemn, one could hear a soft buzz throughout the ritual. The arrival of celebrity Coco Martin elicited a wild cheer from the churchgoers, as did the priest’s blessing of the slate.

After Mass, Sen. Noynoy Aquino stayed behind to address his cabalen. In the meantime, we rushed to the Concepcion Public Market where a proclamation rally was scheduled. Campaign season had officially begun!

Proclamation rallies are a test of patience, endurance, and strong leg and back muscles. It’s easy to get a high from seeing the throngs of supporters who turn out to cheer the candidates on and from hearing their cheers and the wild applause that accompany the speeches. But if you’re part of the campaign team, you’d also better get ready to endure looooong hours in the sun, hunger and thirst especially if your rally extends to mealtimes, and long periods of standing up with all your gear hanging heavily on your back. It’s definitely not easy on the body, but the entire experience gives you an adrenaline rush strong enough to really lift the spirits.

Days fleetingly pass by. It’s already the 5th day of the national campaign and few more days left before the 2010 May election, which happens to be my first time to vote as well. Yes! I’m a FIRST TIME VOTER so this 2010 election is really going to be extra special and memorable for me. ^_^

Anyway, I wasn’t able to join my other teammates in Plaza Moriones, Tondo today but I am still very much involved with the said sortie as I’m the one who updates the netizens of the up-to-the-minute happenings at Tondo through LP for Change or SLAMAT LORRRD’s  Facebook, Twitter and Plurk accounts. Nines sends me soundbites and photos from the sortie and then I update all our SNS. Kinda’ pressuring considering that we need to quickly transcribe soundbites from all the speakers and then fastly update our SNS. Present during the sortie were all the Senatoriables (except for TG Guingona III and Serge Osmena), LP Campaign Manager Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, LP standard bearer Sen. Noynoy Aquino and Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos (Yes, Ate Vi was there. ^_^)

As this blog entry’s title suggest, day 5 brings in a new cycle. A new cycle, I believe for LP, because they held their sortie in an area that is believed to be the bulwark of Sen. Noy’s closest rival. Some of the tarps and posters of the senatoriables were even hung at the former house of Sen. Villar. Hmmmm….now that’s really something new. 0_o

Next week, for sure, is going to be another hectic week for SLAMAT LORRRD and the whole LP campaign team. The 10th of May is getting near and the real battle has just begun.This is not going to be an easy fight but we’re all up for it. The road to real change has lots of bumps and detours but I know that the journey is definitely worth all the hassles, tiring sorties and heartaches when we reach the end. So I just have three words to say…BRING IT ON!
